L-Ergothioneine

L-Ergothioneine (Ergothioneine), CAS No. 497-30-3, is a naturally occurring histidine derivative. PubChem describes Ergothioneine as a metabolite produced by certain bacteria and fungi and occurring naturally in various food sources, with antioxidant and chelating properties. Its molecular formula is C9H15N3O2S and its molecular weight is 229.30 g/mol.
The product is supplied as a white to off-white powder. Identity is controlled by chromatographic comparison with the reference standard. The optical rotation specification is ≥+122.0°, bulk density is 0.50–0.80 g/mL, and loss on drying is ≤0.2%.
